Our Thoughts

With a harness system reminiscent of Aarn's packs, albeit with far fewer bells and whistles, Mammut's updated series of Ducan Spine packs feature Mammut's proprietary Active Spine technology which helps support a natural gait. For individuals chasing a lightweight pack but have been forsaken by the minimal padding of other options on the market, or are seeking something to give your hips a bit more of a break, check these out. While the fabric is not waterproof, the rolltop and DWR treated fabric will still offer some level of water resistance and prevent a level of water ingress - though always use a pack liner!

Mammut's update also features an adjustable torso, essential for dialing in that perfect fit. We find that the Active Spine system really shines when moving at just a slightly quicker pace than normal, making the pack feel like it's working with you rather than against you.

The 28-35L version, while heavy for a comparably lower volume, works best as a daypack or overnight pack when expecting challenging terrain. Featuring two attachments for ice axes, it also makes a pretty good contender for a summit pack.
