Lisa Pinder created Ultralight Hiker in 2019 as a way to share her love for the outdoors with others, and for 5 years, ran everything herself, first as an MYOG cottage outlet, later turning it into an Ultralight specific retail store. As the store grew and the workload grew each day she decided that it was best to exit for her own personal wellbeing. 

That’s where we come in. In 2024, Ryan took over the business, and in 2025 it was renamed Ultralight Gear. Since then, our store has been driven by a team of young, passionate hikers who have turned their love of the outdoors into a mission to reshape the Australian hiking scene. Having experienced it firsthand, we know just how transformative ultralight gear can be.

Our goal is simple: to bring ultralight hiking to the forefront of Australian hiking. We believe that everyone should have access to high-quality gear that makes every adventure more enjoyable and less burdensome. That’s why we’re committed to providing the best ultralight hiking gear and experience; whether that's through our range, advice or everything else in between.

We don't just stock hiking gear.
