Osprey Packs – Comfort, Craft, and a Lifetime Guarantee
If you’ve spent any time on a trail, chances are you’ve seen that unmistakable Osprey logo perched on a pack ahead of you. For many hikers and travellers, Osprey isn’t just a gear choice—it’s a trusted companion that’s been carried over countless miles of mountains, deserts, and winding forest paths.
The history
Since Osprey was founded in 1974, every single product design has passed through the hands of owner and founder Mike Pfotenhauer, who created his first backpack at age 16.
In Santa Cruz, California, the young entrepreneur opened a retail shop in the front of his rental house where backpackers and travellers came for custom-fit, made-to-order packs constructed over several days by Mike himself. As the demand for the great-fitting packs increased, Osprey found itself relocating to its current home in Southwest Colorado.
Today, Osprey is a melting pot of diverse personalities, backgrounds and abilities. All share the common belief that adventure is open to everyone and found anywhere.
Built to Last - And Be Rebuilt
Durability has always been part of the Osprey promise, but they’ve gone a step further with their famous All Mighty Guarantee. Break a buckle, tear a strap, wear a hole into the hipbelt after years of use? Osprey will repair it, no matter how old your pack is. This commitment not only keeps packs out of landfills but also builds long-term trust with the people who rely on them most.
A Pack for Every Adventure
What makes Osprey so enduring is the sheer range of their line up. Day hikers, thru-hikers, climbers, travellers, trail runners, and even bike packers can find a pack that fits their needs. That versatility has made Osprey one of the most recognized and trusted names in outdoor gear. For some, it’s their very first pack. For others, it’s the brand they’ve trusted for decades.
Comfort that Redefines the Carry
Ask any hiker what stands out about an Osprey pack, and chances are they’ll say: the comfort. Osprey has spent decades refining suspension and harness systems that feel almost custom-fitted right off the shelf. Whether you’re hauling a week’s worth of food or a fast-and-light setup for a weekend trip, their packs distribute weight in a way that makes heavy loads feel manageable. This focus on carry comfort is what made Osprey such a household name in the backpacking world.
Committed to Sustainability
In recent years, Osprey has doubled down on making their packs as environmentally responsible as possible. Many of their current models are built with recycled fabrics, bluesign®-approved materials, and PFAS-free DWR coatings. It’s a reflection of a brand that knows the trails we love only stay wild if we protect them—and it’s encouraging to see such a big player in the outdoor industry leaning into sustainability.
